SCOTT & LILA are an Indie Folk duo based in Berlin, featuring songwriters Scott Hildebrand from Chicago, and Lila Despoix who is Paris born, Berlin raised. Scott’s musical roots are deeply embedded in the Chicago blues scene, while Lila brings a rich background in jazz and French Chansons paired with pop sensibilities. Their music bridges Indie Folk and pop with echoes of timeless sounds. Their musical journey began in 2019, when Lila spontaneously joined Scott during one of his street performances in Berlin. This serendipitous encounter sparked a connection where they became artistic mirrors, reflecting and amplifying each other's creativity. In September 2024, they will release their debut, full length, self-titled album with 17 songs which were written and recorded in Sri Lanka, South Korea, USA as well as their creative base, Berlin.

Their journey is as eclectic as their music. In 2019, SCOTT & LILA embarked on a tour of Europe and Asia. When the pandemic hit in 2020, they found themselves “stuck” in Sri Lanka. Embracing this unexpected turn, they immersed themselves in songwriting while living in a small jungle village, producing a wealth of new music and creating four captivating music videos.

Upon returning to Berlin, SCOTT & LILA shared the stage with renowned artists like Anthony Lazaro, John Craigie, Barenger, and The Hoosiers, and won first place at the Songslam Neukölln competition. The duo currently features on rotation on German "RBB Radio." They have continued to enchant audiences with tours across Europe, the USA, and South Korea. In 2023, SCOTT & LILA released a double single with Anthony Lazaro, achieving international success. Their spontaneous street performances have garnered them a significant following on TikTok, with multiple viral videos capturing their raw, authentic style. Their talent and hard work were recognized with funding from the German cultural association, Initiative Musik, for their debut album. The album kicks off with the energetic, pop acoustic track, “In My Head,” which explores the universal experience of overthinking. This track, as well as six others, features acclaimed drummer Tom Osander, known for his work on Damien Rice’s critically acclaimed O album. “Told You Once,” written in the Sri Lankan jungle during a tropical rain storm, is a song about love and travels. They also recorded it in Sri Lanka, along with the accompanying music video, filmed in the bustling marketplace of Colombo. The song “Midnight Pie” embodies personal stories and universal experiences. It’s a jazzy, lighthearted tune inspired by a friend’s breakup and the joy in her newfound independence, symbolized by a homemade apple pie she baked for SCOTT & LILA at midnight.

“We Can Make it Work,” an autobiographical, soulful ballad is about long distance relationships. It is one of the duo’s songs currently on rotation at RBB radio.

Their music is a testament to their diverse songwriting and harmonious vocals, brought to life through their deep connection with each other and their travels. The recordings capture the essence of their performances, with drums, bass, guitar, sitar, harmonica and vocals recorded simultaneously to preserve the authenticity and emotional depth of their songs.
